Gender: a meaningless word.

Why?

Simply look up the definition in the OED, that’s the Oxford English Dictionary.  And even there it’s wrong…

“The male sex or the female sex, especially when considered with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones, or one of a range of other identities that do not correspond to established ideas of male and female.”

Simply put:

Sex (male or female) X social norms.

No matter your sex, if you are outside social norms or even laws you would be considered “trans”.   Does that make a woman in a pair of pants in Saudi Arabia trans, while her sister wearing pants in Denmark is “normal?”   Come on people.

Sex is easy, for this position statement we will only concern SEX as Male or Female…m/f.   You are born with a pair of chromosomes that are either XX or XY.  Forget the deviations.

SOCIALLY ACCEPTED NORMS!  I’m screaming that out because socially accepted norms vary so much that in one country you’re treated as a “normal” person, in another you’re jailed, or stoned to death.

But they miss one key variable:

Sex (m/f) x Social Norms x POPULATION

That gives you the true number of different variables of “gender” and since it’s constantly changing, how can you believe you can cross over?

The population on the planet is just at 8 billion, so in my estimation there are a minimum of 8 billion genders.

How the hell can there be any “trans” or crossing over, like a bridge from one side to the other, when it’s a big roiling boiling mass in constant flux.

If you want to say it is one’s expression of Masculinity or Femininity that’s fair, kinda.  But show me the most Masculine person on the planet, the one at the very apex of accepted maleness.  I bet he wears earrings or thong underwear.

Instead of using the word “transgender”,  just call us Queer.

Transexual?  Crossing from male to female, or female to male.  That’s another thing entirely, easily defined, but less accepted.
